Presenting alternatives

The transition to renewable energy sources brings with it an increasing need for energy storage as wind and solar production is subject to strong fluctuations With the very limited storage capacity of the current power infrastructure, conversion, storage and distribution of the generated power into the energy sectors electricity, warmth and mobility will become a key component in the energy system of the future. Apart from pumped storage power plants, only underground compressed air and hydrogen storage systems can provide the capacity required.

Together with partners from industry and science, we are working on a wide range of ground-breaking planning and R&D projects for future compressed air and hydrogen plants. These projects primarily focus on forecasting the available geological storage potential and on preparing demonstration projects.
