Reliable energy from the depths

Geothermal energy is an environmentally friendly and endless source of energy provided directly from the earth's interior. It is available practically everywhere and at any time. Whether it is visible as a hot source directly on the surface or in the depths of the earth, geothermal energy, in combination with other renewable energies, will gradually replace the heat and electricity supply from fossil fuels and nuclear power.

We distinguish between two geothermal processes: Near-surface geothermal energy with wells up to a depth of approx. 400m and deep geothermal energy with wells from a depth of 400 to approx. 6,000m.

Near-surface geothermal energy uses low earth temperatures up to approx. 25°C mainly for heating single houses and industrial plants; heat pumps are required to increase efficiency. Deep geothermal energy already takes advantage of the higher temperatures directly via heat exchangers. The heat is mainly supplied to district heating systems or electricity generation systems. Economical electricity generation is only possible with temperatures above 100°C.
