Raw materials extraction

Artificially created cavities in salt rock can be used efficiently, sustainably and economically for salt extraction. Because requirements are always different, our solutions are always tailor-made. We design and build caverns in depths of more than 2,000 metres and with volumes of up to one million cubic metres. If requested, we develop innovative designs such as offshore caverns or salt extraction caverns with several access boreholes.

The fundamentals - Geology
Our engineering is always based on the geological conditions. Only when we have analysed these in detail can we start planning a tailor-made cavern.

Interdisciplinary teamwork
At the end of the day, the cavern production and operation must be safe and economical. That is why our geoscientists and engineers work hand in hand - from the first planning step to the completion of the cavity. State-of-the-art 3D modelling software is used to interpret the geological environment and simulate the development of the cavern.

Like every structure, a cavern also requires a structural design. We cooperate with independent rock mechanic laboratories and experts. The results of the laboratory tests contribute to a computer simulation of the planned cavern operation. An expert opinion based on the results then provides recommendations for the operation of the cavern. A brine extraction project can be particularly cost-effective if the caverns are subsequently used for underground storage.
